Why You Will Love This Recipe:
- These garlic butter mushrooms will be hard to share. Once you taste them, you’ll want to eat the whole batch by yourself! Yes, these are that good. - Make this mushroom recipe for a flavorful, quick, and easy side dish.
- Just like my air fryer roasted garlic, this air fryer mushrooms recipe works great as a side dish for steak, chicken, or beef.
- Making sautéed mushrooms in the air fryer is a great way to free up space on the stove.
Q&A:
Absolutely! If the mushrooms are small, then you can air fry them whole. If the mushrooms are large, then I recommend you cut them in half for the best flavor.
This recipe works for all types of mushrooms. You can use white, portobello, button mushrooms, or cremini.
These mushrooms are cooked at 385 degrees Fahrenheit. Please see recipe card below for complete recipe and instructions.
Yes, the air fryer does an excellent job cooking frozen foods. Just add a couple more minutes of cook time to ensure they are thoroughly cooked.
I recommend using fresh mushrooms, but canned can be used as well. Just drain all the water off of the mushrooms before preparing.
How To Clean Mushrooms:
Use a dry brush or a paper towel to remove dirt from mushrooms. If the mushrooms are extremely dirty, then rinse them under cool water, then dry them completely with a dry paper towel. Do not let mushrooms soak in water, as they will absorb the water and can become mushy when cooking.
What To Serve With Butter Garlic Mushrooms?
Serve these mushrooms alongside a juicy steak, on top of pizza, loaded baked potatoes , or sandwiches. They also taste great with these air fryer sautéed onions. Here are some other dishes to serve with garlic mushrooms:
Equipment Needed:
- Air Fryer
Ingredients:
- Mushrooms - I used white mushrooms. I recommend buying whole mushrooms and then slicing them in half.
- Garlic Cloves - I like using fresh garlic for this recipe. You can use garlic powder or store-bought garlic paste if you don’t have garlic cloves on hand.
- Melted Butter - I always use unsalted butter. If you use salted butter, then go easy on the salt when seasoning.
- Soy Sauce - I used low sodium soy sauce. If you use regular soy sauce, you may not want to add any additional salt.
- Olive Oil
- Garlic Powder, Salt, and Pepper
Air Fryer Instructions:
1. Smash the garlic cloves: Using a sharp knife, chop the garlic into tiny pieces. Sprinkle a pinch of salt onto the garlic. Using the back of a wooden spoon, smash the garlic until it turns into a paste. Set aside.
2. To a large bowl, add the mushrooms, melted butter, olive oil, soy sauce, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and garlic paste. Toss the mushrooms until fully coated.
3. Preheat the air fryer to 385 degrees Fahrenheit.
4. Once the air fryer is ready, add mushrooms to the air fryer basket in a single layer and cook for 8 minutes. Shake the basket halfway through.
5. Remove mushrooms from air fryer, let cool, then enjoy as a side dish, appetizer, or snack! Optionally, top with fresh chopped parsley.
Recipe Variations And Substitutions:
- Make air fryer mushrooms parmesan by adding 2 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese to this recipe.
- Don’t have soy sauce? Try it with Worcestershire sauce. Or you can make these without the soy sauce and they will still be super delicious!
- Garlic power can be used if you don’t have fresh garlic on hand. Store bought garlic paste works as well.
Storage And Reheating Instructions:
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- To reheat, preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and heat for 1-3 minutes until warm.
Pro Tips:
- The air fryer I used was the Instant Vortex Plus 6 quart. Since all air fryers are different, you will need to adjust the cook time based on the air fryer you are using.
- Preheat your air fryer according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Garlic powder or store-bought garlic paste will work in this recipe if you don't have garlic cloves.

The instructions mention garlic powder. That isn't in the ingredient listing. So what is the measurement for the garlic powder?
