Equipment Needed:
- Air Fryer
Ingredients:
- Mini Sweet Peppers - These can be found in the produce refrigerated section of the grocery store. I used Sun Set Mini Sweet Peppers from Costco.
- Pizza Sauce - Use your favorite store-bought pizza sauce.
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- Pepperoni - I used regular sized pepperoni cut into one-fourths. You can use mini pepperoni if available.
- Italian Seasoning - This adds extra flavor.
Air Fryer Instructions:
1. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and set the timer for 2 minutes.
2. Leaving the stems intact, cut the peppers in half. Cut out and discard the seeds and white membrane from the peppers.
3. Chop the pepperoni slices into one-fourths.
4. Fill each pepper with 1 teaspoon of pizza sauce. Then top with mozzarella cheese.
5. Add 2 to 3 drops of pizza sauce on top of the cheese, then stick 2-3 pepperoni pieces on top (I do this so that the pepperoni does not fly off while cooking in the air fryer).
6. Sprinkle each pepper with Italian seasoning.
7. Place peppers in the air fryer and cook for 1-2 minutes until the cheese has melted. Be sure to check on them halfway through.
8. Carefully remove peppers from the air fryer. Let cool, then enjoy!
Oven Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Leaving the stem intact, cut the peppers in half. Remove and discard the seeds and white membrane.
3. Chop the pepperoni slices into one-fourths.
4. Fill each pepper with 1 teaspoon of pizza sauce, then top with mozzarella cheese and pepperoni.
5. Add peppers to a parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake for 7 to 10 minutes until the cheese is hot and bubbly.
Recipe Variations And Substitutions:
- Try different toppings like bacon or sausage.
- Make this snack vegetarian by omitting the pepperoni.
- If you don’t have Italian seasoning on hand, dried Oregano would work for extra flavor.
Storage And Reheating Instructions:
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- To reheat, preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees Fahrenheit and heat for 1-3 minutes until hot.
Pro Tips:
- When cooking these in the air fryer be sure to add drops of pizza sauce on top of the cheese and place each pepperoni piece on top of a drop of pizza sauce. This will help prevent the pepperoni from flying off during the cooking process.
- The air fryer I used was the Instant Vortex Plus 6 quart. Since all air fryers are different, you will need to adjust the cook time based on the air fryer you are using.
