Q&A:
There is no need to soak the potatoes for this recipe.
With the air fryer I use, I never experience my cheese flying off the potatoes. However, if you have an air fryer that tends to blow off toppings like shredded cheese, you can melt the cheese using the residual heat from cooking the potatoes.
What To Serve With Sour Cream and Onion Potato Rounds:
Equipment Needed:
- Air Fryer
Ingredients:
- Olive Oil
- Russet Potato - I used a medium size russet potato. Be sure to scrub the outside clean with water before use.
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- Bacon Crumbles - I used store bought bacon crumbles to save time. You can cook and crumble your own bacon if desired.
- Green Onion - Goes so well with this recipe.
- French Onion Dip - I used Heluva Good Dip. This is a chip dip that can be found in the refrigerated dairy section on the grocery store, near the sour cream. You can use whatever brand of French onion chip dip that you prefer.
- Seasonings: Onion Powder, Dried Parsley Flakes, Salt, Pepper
Air Fryer Instructions:
1. In a small dish, mix together the olive oil, onion powder, parsley, salt, and pepper.
2. Slice the potatoes into ¼ inch thick rounds.
3. Brush each side of the potato rounds with the olive oil mixture.
4. Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit and set the timer for 12 minutes.
5. Add the potato rounds to the air fryer in a single layer. Cook for 12 minutes, flipping them halfway through.
6. Once the potatoes are done. Open the air fryer basket and top the potatoes with the mozzarella cheese and bacon crumbles.
7. Cook for an additional minute until the cheese has melted.
8. Remove the potato slices from the air fryer and top with French onion dip and green onion slices.
Oven Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Prepare potatoes as directed in the recipe.
3. Add potatoes to a parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes. Flip the potatoes halfway through.
4. Carefully remove the potatoes from the oven and top with cheese and bacon. Bake for an additional 5 minutes until the cheese has melted.
5. Remove potatoes from oven and top with French onion dip and sliced green onion.
Recipe Variations And Substitutions:
- Regular sour cream can be used instead of French onion dip if that’s what you have on hand. You can also mix regular sour cream with onion dip seasoning to create your own dip.
- Shredded cheddar or shredded Colby Jack can be used instead of mozzarella.
Storage And Reheating Instructions:
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- To reheat, preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees Fahrenheit and heat for 1-3 minutes until hot.
Pro Tips:
- The air fryer I used was the Instant Vortex Plus 6 quart. Since all air fryers are different, you will need to adjust the cook time based on the air fryer you are using.
- If you have an air fryer that tends to blow cheese and toppings off, just use the residual heat leftover from cooking the potatoes to melt the cheese. Your air fryer will still be warm and the fan will be off.
- Save time by using store bought bacon crumbles.
