Q&A:
Soaking potatoes in cold water helps draw out some of the starch from the potato, which is suppose to result in a crisper potato. I tested this method on this recipe and found that there was no difference in the results of soaking versus not soaking the potato slices before hand.
At 380 degrees Fahrenheit, potato slices take between 12-15 minutes to cook in the air fryer depending on the thickness of the slices. See below for the step-by- step instructions on how to make sliced potatoes in the air fryer.

Equipment Needed:

Ingredients
Here’s an overview of ingredients you’ll need. Full Recipe Below:
- Olive Oil - Used to coat the potato slices and hold the seasonings on.
- Smoked Paprika - You can use regular paprika if you don’t have smoked paprika.
- Garlic Powder - Adds a nice garlic flavor and adds a little crisp to the potato slices.
- Salt and Ground Black Pepper
- Russet Potato - I used a medium sized Russet Potato. Washed and skin removed.
Air fryer Instructions:
1. To a small bowl, add the olive oil, salt, ground black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Stir until well blended. Set aside.
2. Using a sharp knife, slice the Russet potato into ⅓-inch-thick rounds.
3. To a large bowl, add the potato slices. Top with the olive oil seasoning mixture and toss until the potato slices are evenly coated.
4. Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit.
5. Once the air fryer is ready. Add the potato slices to the air fryer in a single layer and cook for 7 minutes. After 7 minutes, flip the potatoes slices.
6. Cook for another 7 minutes until fork tender on the inside and slightly crispy on the outer edges.
7. Remove potato slices from air fryer, let cool, then enjoy with spicy garlic aioli, bacon aioli or your favorite dipping sauce and main dish.
Recipe Variations And Substitutions:
- Russet Potatoes or Yukon Gold can be used for this recipe.
- Try different seasonings - Ranch seasoning, Cajun, or taco seasoning are all tasty options to try next!
Storage And Reheating Instructions:
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- To reheat, preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit and heat for 1-3 minutes until crispy.
Pro Tips:
- Make sure each potato slice has a similar thickness for even cooking.
- The potato slices should be ⅓-inch-thick. Any thinner and they will crisp up like potato chips. These are tender and delicious.
- Be sure to cook the potato slices in a singer layer, do not overcrowd the air fryer.
- The air fryer I used was the Instant Vortex Plus 6 quart. Since all air fryers are different, you will need to adjust the cook time based on the air fryer you are using.
